Lightening Up: Humor In The Healing Process
by
Dr. Catherine P. Perry
January 2012
Incorporating humor into the spiritual growth process is a favorite technique of mine. In my experience, people take themselves and their problems so seriously that their grip on their worries is far too tight. Let’s take depression, for example.
For those who find themselves in a depressed state, I want you to know first that I deeply and completely respect you in your totality. Please know that I wouldn’t joke around about someone who is despondent, bereaved, or severely traumatized. I have been in that dark place.
But…
At some point in the healing process, it’s time to give the psyche a break from the chronic sadness and lethargy that feels as if it will not end.
After acknowledging the pain, gaining insight into the cause(s) of the depression, and trudging through the treatment process, it’s time to turn to the absurd. Yes, the hilarious…the strangely silly…outrageously funny side of life.
Here’s a little exercise sure to bring some relief to the stagnant energy of the sad-state:
I actually tried it in my kitchen one morning. While the act seemed weird, I did find myself laughing and feeling more energized. Of course, a good shoulder-heaving, nose-running, mouth-drooling crying spell is a great pre-requisite for letting the humor in.
OK, here it goes…
Sing the following lyrics to the tune of I Feel Good by James Brown. Now, if you don’t know who James Brown is—was, rather, as he is deceased—or if you don’t know the song or you are tone deaf, please look it up on YouTube so you can sing along while using the lyrics I provide here:
I f-e-e-e-l crappy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
I wish I were happy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
I fe-e-e-yul crappy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
I wish I were happy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
Much CRAP!
No HAPP!
I fe-e-e-yul S-A-A-A-A-A-A-D! HUH! HAH! OU!
Did you try it?
OK, now reverse the lines to:
I fe-e-el happy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
I used to feel crappy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
I fe-e-e-yul happy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
I used to feel crappy (da-na-na-na-na-na-na)
ALL HAPP!
NO CRAP!
It’s a-a-all G-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-D! HUH! HAH? Jump Back! Kiss myself! Oh Yeah!
I am sure, as I have experienced, that you did chuckle a bit. And, I’ll bet you were dancing—or at least moving to the beat. Right?
Spiritual growth and healing doesn’t have to be so heavy, so serious. We can all lighten up a bit to take the load off our hearts!
Hah!

Are you having psychic experiences? Are you questioning whether your metaphysical experiences are real? Do you see or hear dead people? Are you sensing that angels, God, or other spirit entities are giving you messages?
Are you in the closet, so to speak, about your spiritual abilities? Perhaps you know your abilities are real, you have a circle of friends with similar knowings, and yet you feel that some people such as your employer, your family, your pastor, significant other, your doctor, your neighbors, or your therapist might write you off as delusional. About six years ago, I was that fearful person, dreading what people in my profession would think, if I revealed my secret.
Through an intense spiritual awakening and healing journey chronicled in my book Courageous Wake, I acknowledged my gifts and catapulted myself out of the spiritual closet. Along the way, I met more and more people who had opened to some powerful psychic gifts. Those people were coming out of the woodwork. They came from all walks of life: lawyers, physicians, chiropractors, massage therapists, stay-at-home-moms, hardly-ever-at-home-moms, dentists, counselors, psychologists, insurance executives, CPA’s, interior designers, and many more. A large group of these “in the closet” psychics and metaphysical healers were psychotherapists like me.
If you are questioning the authenticity of your metaphysical experiences, you are not alone. Many people just like you are faced with the dilemma of whether or not to accept what is happening to them. The other dilemma is, of course, whether or not to expose the real you.
In my experience, the only way to normalize a phenomenon is to talk about it openly and to generate an ever-expanding dialogue that increases awareness and understanding of the phenomenon. The dialogue along with the understanding eases fear of the unknown. At this time, in particular, a mass awakening and evolution is occurring on planet Earth. Intuition, psychic ability, telepathy, and channeling spirits are more prevalent than you think. It is time for humanity to acknowledge the reality of the metaphysical world and our connection to it. Remember, those who discovered first-hand that the Earth is round and not flat created quite a stir among humans; however, the increase in reports of this round world eventually spread to the collective consciousness of humanity. Hence, what was once unbelievable became an accepted truth.
So many of you have come to me for answers. I know that coming out of the spiritual closet was absolutely necessary, so that I could be a resource, or guidepost, for those tempted to question their sanity, especially when faced with skeptics. I validate and acknowledge you and your experiences. Remember, there are more of us out there than you know. Do not get caught up in mainstream propaganda such as “If you can’t measure it or detect it with the five senses, it is not real.” Do not buy into this thinking. Your intuition and other metaphysical communications are informing you in a much more accurate way than any five-sensory thinker or philosopher can.
Be grounded in your truth, express yourself as the real you (psychic abilities and all), and come on out of that closet. You have much to teach others. It is time.

LETTING GO OF THE PAST:
A PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT
Dr. Catherine P. Perry, M.Ed, DD
March 27, 2011
The enlightenment process, shifting us out of the third dimension and into a new reality, is knocking on the doors of our hearts, beckoning: let go, let go, let go…
Addiction, fear, self-loathing, emotional suppression, false humility, and denial will not work in the fifth dimension. More and more people are receiving the message, and yet they resist the call. They are hitting bottom, feeling despair, feeling stuck, and finding themselves confused and overwhelmed—unsure of their futures. Let us now intend that each of us conjure massive courage, manifest powerful support, and receive Divine guidance to help us acknowledge and release energies of the past as well as allow more of our True Selves to integrate and express in our lives.
On this path to enlightenment, many aspects of be-ing are begging to be expressed. We are called to acknowledge, integrate, and express each dimension of Self. Coming into awareness of the multiple aspects that comprise our totality, we gain a sense of wholeness and wellness.
Challenges arise when we must face parts of Self we are least likely to enjoy. To get past the challenges takes not only great courage but also compassion. We must drop all judgment, for when we are in judgment of ourselves, we are defeating the purpose of acknowledging all aspects of our souls. To truly be whole, we must shift out of judgment and into acceptance.
The process of awakening is a stretching or expanding of Self. We are being pulled beyond the usual ways of seeing, hearing, loving, and experiencing. All of our duality—our shadow aspects—must be acknowledged, felt, and then released.
Living in alignment within the new dimensions means letting go of our programming: fear-based thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and energies. We must bring to conscious knowing all shadow parts of Self stemming from past lives, early childhood trauma, ancestral memories, and present addictive habits that keep us blocked. Overeating, co-dependent relationships, ingesting destructive substances, and sex addiction are fuel for the ego. This ego-functioning blocks us from the reality that we are Spirit. The ego-based habits have served their purpose. It is time for humanity to wake up to the new reality.
It is time to live life on purpose and to intend to live in joy as complete beings—Gods and Goddesses wearing “human-suits”—and to experience what it really means to be whole. It is time to forgive and to release the past, so that we can truly live on our terms as the Divine Beings that we are and always have been.
This is the enlightenment process.

ENERGY AND VIBRATION:
FORGING NEW FRONTIERS IN HEALING ADDICTIONS
Dr. Catherine
P. Perry, M.Ed, DD
Feb. 8, 2011
Can perceiving addictions as energy be key to achieving healing and lasting change? You bet!
Addiction, be it to drugs, sex, alcohol, chaos, food, abuse, or co-dependency, is no different than any other problem when we view it from the perspective of energy. There is more to destructive attachments than meets the eye—much more than western medicine recognizes.
Rooting out the cause of addiction is nothing more than understanding the energetic cause of the emotions, thoughts, and neurological dynamics that perpetuate the addictive patterns. Comprehending the whole human as energy, or quantum vibrational material, elucidates essential components that affect people in a multi-dimensional way. Problematic energy (i.e. stress, fear, addiction, etc.) is transmuted and released when one raises the vibrational frequency of that energy. I find it nothing short of miraculous to witness the transformations in people after applying energy healing to shift, and hence, remove the source of the problems.
I am confident that the energy paradigm in healing addictions is weaving its way into modern recovery. This perception of addictions as energy is not yet accepted by the mainstream medical community; however, my experience shows me that more and more people are empowering themselves, owning their choices to use complimentary and alternative modalities for healing.
Despite the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) reports of dramatic increases in usage of energy medicine and other alternative forms of healthcare, conventional medicine lags behind the general public. Perhaps the public—you and I—are the ones who are truly forging new frontiers in how healthcare and healing play out in the very near future. Are we on the leading edge of change? Are we insisting that the mainstream medical system incorporate energy healing paradigms into its formal curricula? Will we wait for a healthcare-boss to give us permission to choose other-than-mainstream paths to healing?
It is time for greater global acceptance of the vibrational healing paradigm for the creation of harmony in mind/body/spirit, and, yes, freedom from addictions. At the quantum level, our attachments, addictions, and our wellness are based in those beautiful subatomic waves of pure potential. On this level, all possibilities exist, and all healing is readily available.
It is time for mainstream medicine to, quite literally, take the quantum leap and boldly go where they are meant to be. In the meantime, humanity will continue to press forward into the new dimension of self-empowerment.
Remember: Both problem and solution are created on the level of energy. This is the new frontier in healing addictions.

INTUITION, ENERGY, AND MANIFESTING
Dr. Catherine P. Perry, M.Ed DD
June 29, 2010
The more open we are to our intuitive-creative flow, the easier it is
to manifest positive change in our lives. Most of us on the spiritual growth
path are aware of this fact; however, all too often, we find ourselves
busy and in autopilot mode. The next thing we know: we are in a rut and
feeling frustrated. Here is a kind reminder to anyone to needs it.
We are more fluid and allowing when we are in tune with our whole self ~ mind,
body, spirit, energy. Energy is our natural life force also referred to as
Chi, Ki, Prana, and Huna. When the energy is
freely flowing through us, we have greater awareness and our intuitive ability
increases.
When we are stressed, we often get caught up in compartmentalizing ourselves—operating from the left-brain
and over-thinking. This stressed state shuts down our intuitive flow and creativity. In this state, we are usually breathing shallowly, and we are diminishing the natural flow of life force energy through our bodies. This condition is no different than having a kink in our garden hose and expecting water to flow. The lack of flow inhibits us and creates roadblocks to manifesting our desires.
Hypnosis, energy healing techniques, meditation, and deep breathing exercises are among a long list of modalities that bring deep relaxation to the mind and body. The relaxation creates
openings in us that allow not only greater flow of life force energy but also expanded flow of our intuition. Additionally, the relaxation allows the "critical, judgmental, rational"
conscious mind to chill-out, so to speak. When the conscious mind is relaxed, the
subconscious mind, the "creative, intuitive, allowing and open" part, is free to fully function to our benefit. Accessing the subconscious mind and allowing the right brain to participate in directing our circumstances, we are able to feel the sensations related to the real or imagined arrival of our happy manifestations. Getting to that place of feeling, or emotion, (as if we've actually received what we want) is key in the manifestation process.
The subconscious mind is better able to imagine, when the brain is in a relaxed state, somewhere between sleeping and being awake. This deep state of relaxation is called theta, where the intuitive-creative
mind is free and fully operational. In this condition, we are, quite literally, miracle workers.
You see, the subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between imagination
and what is real. The intuition, flowing freely within our subconscious mind, is our connection to our highest, wisest self and does not
judge. The intuition simply creates and informs. What it imagines easily becomes real.
Being connected to the whole self requires regular practice. Keep your energy and intuition flowing. Fine-tuning your intuition and integrating mind, body, spirit, and energy is like having the combination to every lock on every door you want to open. Whether you want a better job, more money, to increase self-confidence, to improve your golf game, to attract a great relationship, or to eliminate stress or fear, all is possible.
Remember, the water flows when you get the kinks out of your hose!
